What is a keyword?

Keyword is a word used to collect responses sent by several users to a particular request placed by the sender. It is a great way to market your products and increase brand awareness amongst customers.

You can define a keyword and associate a phone code to it. You can choose between a 10-digit long code and a short code.

E.g.: To get cool discounts SMS PIZZA to 9220092200. Here PIZZA is the keyword and 9220092200 is the long code.

The users who send PIZZA to 9220092200 will become a part of your customer base.

I created a keyword, but I am not able to use it now. What could have gone wrong?

Nothing has gone wrong. When you create a keyword, it is first sent to the Administrator for review and approval. This process takes up to 1-2 working days.

What is the difference between a keyword and keyword group?

A keyword is used to respond to collect a response to particular request placed by the sender. But to create a keyword, you must first create a keyword group and then create the associated keyword. A keyword group is used to organize all the keywords being used for a common purpose.

I had created a keyword group sometime back and I even used it for some time. But when I logged on to the site now, I see the group as expired group. Why did that happen?

When you create a keyword group, you create it for a fixed cycle of minimum one month or maximum one year. If the validity period of the keyword group is over, the group moves to the Expired Groups section.

How can I collect responses to the keyword?

You can set a response url to collect responses at your end or you can also view the same in the Keywords section for the relevant Keyword Group.

How do I set the Response URL?

Response URL is a response type option while setting up Keyword Group. The format is as follows:

http://www.example.com/getresponse.php?phonecode=%pcode&keyword=%kw&location=%loc&carrier=%car&content=%con&msisdn=%ph&timestamp=%time

The response URL consists details of response such as the sender’s phone number, the time when request was received, the keyword on which request was received, the additional message with the request, and so on. Thus, for the keyword Test, phone code 9220092200, and message Test Nagpur, the server calls the following URL:

http://www.example.com?phonecode=9220092200&keyword=Test&location=Mumbai&carrier=Vodafone&content=TestNagpur&msisdn=9812348765&timestamp=13082098000

If I do not have a response URL, will I lose out on the responses?

Of course not! If you do not have a response URL, the responses to your keyword will be collected at our end on the long code specified by you. You can see these responses under the relevant Keyword Group. You can also export the responses in an Excel format.

Is it necessary to set a default response?

Well, it is not necessary but it’s a good practice to set it. When a user sends a response to your keyword, a confirmation message assures him that his response has been received. A default response is a simple text message. You may or may not specify a mask for the default response. You can use one of your live masks or you could use the same number as associated with the keyword.
